Although I’m not a military member, Financially Fit For Duty by T.C. Miller is incredibly valuable and accessible. There are some parts that only apply to military members, but I just skip those parts and the rest is valuable, well-communicated principles that anyone can use to improve the financial fitness of their household. This book covers the basics of personal finance in a way that anyone, military or civilian, can understand and apply to their lives. The structure of the book—focused on Getting Money, Keeping Money, and Spending Money—is easy to follow, and each section is packed with practical advice.

One of the highlights for me was the clear and straightforward approach. It’s rare to find a financial guide that speaks in plain language without getting bogged down by jargon. Each chapter has actionable steps, which helped me implement changes in real time, from setting up a budget to creating savings accounts for emergencies, dreams, and daily needs. It’s written in such a relatable way that I found myself genuinely motivated to take more control of my finances.

I also appreciated the thoughtful examples and real-life scenarios, which made financial concepts much more tangible. This book isn't just for those in uniform—it's a guide that anyone looking to improve their financial knowledge can benefit from. The author breaks this book up extremely logically into the three parts that matter with money - getting it, keeping it, and spending it. He wrote it with people in military organisations in mind, but as you'll see it applies to all of us. Only read this book if you want the peace of mind coming from sound personal finances.
